With manufacturing markets representing between 65-70 percent of the gas demand in the US, “Made in America” is important topic to the industrial gas industry. We see three major factors driving a manufacturing comeback in North America — reshoring, automation, and additive manufacturing. In this issue, which examine how each of these will influence the industrial gas supply chain.

Additive manufacturing is explained in Kim Brand’s article, “A Novice’s Guide to 3D Printing,” and the team at Air Products takes us through the role of industrial gases in the 3D printing of metal parts. Bob Linton examines how automation is impacting the supply chain and looks at where robotic applications are having the biggest impact. Also profiled in this issue are two US manufacturers — Technifab and CPV Manufacturing — each of which presents their own “Made in America” story.
