New trailer another winner from Chart

The new Liquid Tube Trailer adds yet more options to Chart Industries’ comprehensive cryogenic storage and delivery offering, says Tim Neeser.
Chart Industries is a leading supplier of cryogenic cylinders and systems used to deliver smaller quantities of liquefied gas to end users. Its equipment is used by customers worldwide - according to Tim Neeser, the company’s Distribution and Storage Group director of Marketing and New Product Development, the company has recently delivered its 400th ORCA® truck. Part of the company’s MicroBulk System, the Orca is designed for filling directly to or through a wall box to the Perma-Cyl® storage vessel (see above). These are also available with a UHP option made entirely of stainless steel.
In specialty gas labs this system is an increasingly popular choice for argon supply for Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/ICP-MS) equipment and nitrogen gas for Gas Chromatograph (GC) equipment. The uninterrupted gas supply avoids cylinder changes, lost residual gas or gas quality issues.
For laser applications Chart is particularly active in the area of assist gases, for example with high-powered lasers used in metal fabrication. “We now offer the Orca truck with a 400 psig submerged pump for filling into high pressure Perma-Cyl tanks that normally operate at 450 psig to provide this gas to the lasers,” Neeser says. “The Perma-Cyl still needs to be vented down to 350 psig for refilling, but it’s a lot better than venting down to 180 psig so it can be filled from a 230 psig pump.”
The last few years have also seen Chart introduce the Orca Model XT - a pumpless system particularly suited to the medical gases market where submerged pump technology used for inert gas service is not appropriate. Chart’s Orcas are a global business, with manufacture in Decin, Czech Republic (Ferox) and in Changzhou, China.
Liquid Tube Trailer
The latest design out of the Chart Industries stable is the recently unveiled Liquid Tube Trailer (see opposite page), which Neeser says is “a great back-up or starter unit for laser assist gas as it can deliver up to 535 psig at 15,000 scfh and be refilled on site”.
The Liquid Tube Trailer HP2-2500 is a mobile gas supply system that finds uses in a wide range of temporary applications. It is typically supported by gaseous high pressure tube trailers in nitrogen or argon gas service. The trailer features a patented on-board high pressure, high-performance pressure builder and vaporizer design. This helps precisely manage heat for optimum gas flow while keeping liquid cold for the maximum hold time during intermittent use and reduced filling losses. The unit can be configured to a wide range of pressures and flows to supply many gas or liquid applications (and can be easily switched between services). Chart suggests the system is ideal as a customer start up, for bulk supply trials, as backup for servicing permanent cryogenic equipment or as an emergency backup to the Orca.
Neeser says the Liquid Tube Trailer was built very much in response to customers. “We understood the applications and believed there was a better solution using cryogenics over compressed gas,” he told Specialty Gas Report. “One must continue to stay abreast of every new application for gas and liquid”.
“People want custom solutions these days to provide the best equipment at the right costs… no compromises,” Neeser concludes.
