The country is located in a mountainous region, sandwiched between Kazakhstan, China, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan but is in fact a very undeveloped and poor country.

Kyrgyzstan was the first Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) country to be accepted into the World Trade Organization. It is a poor country but does have some precious metals reserves and has had economic reform leading to privatisation of most State owned enterprises The Republic of Kyrgyzstan occupies the territory of 200 thousand sq.km and is situated in Central Asia west of China and south of Kazakhstan. It borders not only these two countries but Tajikistan and Uzbekistan - the country is landlocked and very mountainous.
