China’s hybrid electric tram powered by hydrogen (H2) fuel cells has begun commercial operation.
It is the first commercial H2-powered tram in the world and made by China Railway Rolling Corporation (CRRC) Tangshan Co Ltd. It can be refilled with H2 in 15 minutes and can run for 40 kilometers at a maximum speed of 70 km per hour.
The tram operates on a 136-year-old railway in Tangshan city, one of China’s earliest industrial cities, and links several of its industrial heritage sites.
This launch marks a big step in the application of green energy in China’s public transport.
Air Products will introduce the latest technology development in the company’s portfolio of hydrogen (H2) generators for on-site gas production to the chemical processing industry at the Chem Show in New York from 31st October to 2nd November.
