With the new model MGN decomposition arrestor, Witt-Gasetechnik has launched a safety device that protects against accidents when filling acetylene gas cylinders.
The decomposition arrestor has undergone an acetylene decomposition test by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing BAM, and protects the acetylene filling system upon spontaneous decomposition of the gas acetylene.
The Witt MGN decomposition arrestor prevents this. An integrated flame arrester made from sintered chrome-nickel-steel stops the chain reaction; stopped independently of the inlet direction in the MGN-12 model. An acetylene decomposition test according to DIN EN ISO 15615 at the BAM validates the effectiveness of the new Witt safety device and the conformity of the MGN decomposition arrestor with the code of practice (EIGA Acetylene IGC DOC 123/4).
The system expands the manufacturer’s previous FN model series, whose maximum operating pressure is 1.5 bar/21.7 psi. The MGN stops spontaneous decomposition of the gas up to a pressure of 25 bar/362 psi. Three variants can be chosen from: Besides the basic model, WITT also offers a model acting both-way whose decomposition arrestor function is ensured irrespective of the inlet direction. The top model also contains a non-return valve so that no air penetrates the system when changing the cylinder. The formation of explosive gas mixtures is prevented in this way. The MGN is used in high-pressure pipes of cylinder filling systems, every cylinder being protected individually.
