Armenia had enjoyed impressive growth for a number of years before the global financial crisis hit in 2009 are the economy greatly suffered. The country’s construction sector in particular was badly affected. Armenia is susceptible to downturns in the world economy for a number of reasons: it is geographically isolated, houses a narrow export base, and a number of the key sectors in the country’s economy are run by entrenched monopolies.
