The commercial industrial gases market in Bulgaria generated revenues of approximately $72m in 2016. This was up from $40m in 2006, indicating an average annual growth rate of 6% p.a. for the decade.
Between 2006 and 2016 GDP grew by an average of 2.2% p.a. when adjusted for inflation. There was a period of annual growth between 3% and 8% in the 2000-2008 period, offset by a marked contraction of 3.6% in 2009, as a result of the global financial crisis. While pre-2009 the economy benefited from significant amounts of bank lending, consumption, and foreign direct investment, growth in the years since 2010 has been slower to recover.
