Primary Flow Signal (PFS), the leading designer and manufacturer of innovative, durable, and accurate flow-metering solutions for oil & gas, power, water/wastewater, and industrial applications, offers LNG flow measurement technology for challenging, low-temperature conditions.

A significant portion of the world’s energy originates from natural gas. However, in order to transport it from the retrieval site to the point-of-use, the gas must first be converted to a liquid. Liquefaction takes places when the gas is cooled to -260° F, which stabilises it and creates a significant reduction in volume. Primary Flow Signal’s differential Venturi flow meters and orifice plates have been field-tested at installations worldwide, and are proven to offer the reliability and comprehensive readings required in harsh environments where the process of gas liquefaction must be accurately monitored.

PFS’s Venturi meters used for LNG applications meet ASME and ISO-5167 standards and provide standard accuracy of +/-1.0% to 1.5% (per ASME / ISO-5167) and +/-0.25% or better based on hydraulic laboratory flow calibration. Comprised of carbon steel, stainless steel, or virtually any machinable material requested, PFS’s Venturi meters can be incorporated with a wide variety of secondary instrumentation systems to provide system performance that satisfies any application requirements.

Using the same principles of Venturi meters, PFS’s orifice meter plates provide continuous measurement of fluid flow in pipes. Delivering optimum flexibility, PFS’s plates are ideal for applications with many diverse existing piping schemes, and require a considerably lower investment for the initial purchase of equipment.

“The complex process by which natural gas is converted into LNG requires accurate and reliable metering solutions,” said Bruce Briggs, President of Primary Flow Signal. “Our field-proven technologies, such as our Venturi meters and orifice plates, provide accurate flow measurement for LNG facilities under the most difficult conditions and with the longest accurate life expectancy of any meter technology worldwide.”

PFS’s metering solutions are designed and manufactured in the United States by the industry’s largest team of specialised hydraulic engineers, backed by extensive laboratory and field testing, ISO 9001-2008 certification, and are available with ASME S & U Code Stamps and European PED, Module H compliance. PFS’s products, including differential producing Venturi, WedgeType™, orifice plates, and PTC-6 primary flow elements, deliver a level of differential metering accuracy, reliability, and versatility, coupled with unparalleled engineering support, simply not available from other metering solutions.
