To give the company its full name, Rama Cylinders Private Limited (RCPL) is committed to manufacturing various types of high pressure cylinders, vessels, accumulators, tanks, and pipes.
With considerable experience in the field of industrial commodities and having established large acquisitions in the petrochemicals, fertilisers and paper industries, Vashu J. Ramsinghani founded Rama Cylinders with his son Amit V. Ramsinghani.
The company was established with the intention of growing to become one of the largest and leading manufacturers of high pressure seamless steel gas cylinders.
These products find use in a range of applications for the storage and transportation of gases and liquids, and much more. Beyond this, the company produces an expansive range of high quality industrial gas cylinders for industrial and fire-fighting applications in India, medical gas cylinders, and high pressure cylinders for both compressed natural gas (CNG) and hydrogen storage in alternative-fuelled vehicles in India.
World class facilities
Now a leading producer of high pressure cylinders, Rama gas cylinders are made using seamless steel tubes in Manganese steel and Chrome Molybdenum steel, manufactured to ISO-9001, ISO-14001 and ISO-18001 compliance at its plant in Kutch, Gujarat, India.
The plant, which is of a ‘world class standard’, currently operates with a production capacity of around 300,000 cylinders per annum and is set to have reached expansion to 800,000 per annum by February (2009).
Further expansion to production of around 1 million cylinders per year is also thought to be in the pipeline for RCPL, which regularly exports its products to countries as far and wide as Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, and Armenia.
In terms of RCPL’s production processes, the company currently employs the hot spinning process for the manufacture of its high pressure seamless cylinders.
Accommodating for technology advances through the years and other such developments, Rama Cylinders can also deviate from hot spinning and manufacture to alternative methods – depending on economic viability and profitability of process.
Such processes depend largely on the quality of machines housed at the plant, of which most major machinery has been carefully chosen and imported from varying countries and specialist companies around the world. Rama can produce industrial gas cylinders to specific customer requirements, requiring outside diameters ranging from 76mm to 406mm, length ranging from 30-3000mm and pressures up to 400 bar. Seamless steel cylinders and accumulators shells are made in strict compliance with all applicable National and International standards too. In the near future Rama Cylinders has plans for manufacturing CNG Composite Cylinders designed in order to reduce the weight of the vehicle as much as possible, at a cost acceptable to vehicles manufacturers.
The other major plan for the future focuses on the aforementioned expansion of its plant capacity, to soon reach 1 million cylinders per annum, with work for expansion already well underway at the site.
