Air Liquide joins forces with Holcim to decarbonise cement production

Industrial gas major Air Liquide will work alongside Swiss-based global building materials manufacturer Holcim on a project that aims to decarbonise Holcim’s new cement production plant under development in Belgium.

The new plant will be fitted with Air Liquide’s Cryocap carbon capture technology, which could save up to 1.1 million tonnes per year of carbon dioxide (CO2) from Holcim’s cement manufacturing process.

According to Holcim, the partnership is part of GO4Zero, the company’s carbon reduction investment programme.

Having updated its 2030 climate in line with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)’s revised 1.5C-aligned roadmap, Holcim has committed to meeting a range of greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets encompassing Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2030.
