Spanish energy firms plan €500m rollout of 20 biomethane plants


Leading energy firm Naturgy and renewables specialist ID Energy Group plan to develop 20 biomethane plants in Spain as part of a major €500m deal.

The plants, providing an estimated production capacity of 1,600 GWh per year, aim to be operational between 2026 and 2028 and will be spread across different parts of the country.

The production of biomethane will help not only reduce emissions but create energy independence through the generation of bio-fertilisers and optimisation of available resources.

Jose Luis Gil, General Manager of Renewable Gases at Naturgy, said both firms share the same “end-to-end vision” and ID Energy will bring its experience working with biomethane in other European countries.
