R.W. Baird & Co. (www.rwbaird.com) has been surveying industrial distributors (including some gas distributors) for more than three years. In 2010 Baird and CryoGas International partnered to provide a survey of quarterly results focused on US packaged gas and hardgoods distributors.
With this gas-focused survey, in conjunction with Baird’s traditional product, we can discern trends within gas and hardgoods distribution and compare these trends to “all other” distribution categories (including: industrial supply/MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations), building materials/facilities maintenance, and industrial wire and cable). Revenues
Figure 1 shows year-to-year (Y/Y) growth for “Gas & Rent” and “Hardgoods” from 3Q’09 through 4Q’10 and survey estimates for 2011. These estimates are compared with “Overall” distributor revenues, which is the average of all survey respondents including gas and hardgoods distributors.
