Carburos Metálicos, the Spanish subsidiary of Air Products, has renewed its agreement to supply integrated global energy company Repsol with hydrogen (H2) and steam for the next decade.
For the next 10 years, the company will deliver the gases to Repsol’s refinery in Tarragona. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
It is understood that the H2 and steam will be sourced from Carburos Metálicos’ gas and liquid H2 production plant, dubbed HYCO, which is situated in nearby La Pobla de Mafumet.
Covering an area of 10,000m2, the plant was inaugurated in May 2002 and represents an investment of €58m ($64m). The facility produces 144 tonnes per day (tpd) of H2 via its large capacity steam methane reformer (SMR) technology, which is the biggest in Spain.
