77 Task Force celebrates Qatar’s achievement

0

The State of Qatar is set to form a multi-company, multi-discipline 77Mta Task Force to recognise the achievement of producing 77m tonnes of LNG per annum. This amount constitutes the largest capacity in the world.
The production objective was articulated by His Highness the Emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani. If achieved, the State of Qatar would offer the largest LNG capacity in the world. It was with this success in mind that His Excellency Deputy Premier and Minister of Energy & Industry and Chairman of Qatar Petroleum, Abdullah Bin Hamas Al-Attiyah announced the new 77Mta Task Force plan.
His Excellency Al-Attiyah, commented, “With the imminent completion of Qatargas Train 6 and 7 and the earlier completion of RasGas Train 7, we, Qatar, will have an installed capacity of some 77m tonnes of liquefied natural gas – thus fulfilling His Highness’s vision. This is a milestone of historic significance for the state of Qatar. Our country will certainly take centre position on the world energy stage as the world’s largest LNG producer. I am very proud of this achievement and look forward to the celebration.”
In addition to the 77Mta Task Force, His Excellency appointed Abdulaziz Al Malki as Chair of the 77 Higher Committee to oversee plans. Among the companies to be involved in the project are Qatargas, RasGas and Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC) led by QP. Other interested parties include the offices of the Emiri Diwan and company shareholder representatives.
The central event of the 77 Mta is scheduled to take place on Monday 13th December 2010 and will be a Ras Laffan based event celebrating the achievement.
