Following approval from the competition authorities, Air Liquide has announced the finalised acquisition of engineering firm Lurgi for an enterprise value of €200m.

Broadening the technology portfolio of the company's Engineering Division, the integration of Lurgi into Air Liquide will provide the group with strength in the hydrogen and synthetic gas production processes. The move will also give Air Liquide a foothold in the Coal to Liquid (CTL) and Coal to Chemicals (CTC) markets, doubling the size of the Engineering Division and expanding its geographic reach.

Further propelling the growth of Air Liquide, Lurgi has 1,300 employees and generated revenue of €850m in 2006, with its main engineering centres located in Germany, Poland, the US, India and South Africa.
