Air Liquide is selected for a long term supply agreement with the largest copper manufacturer in Europe, Aurubis AG.
The new contract will address Aurubis’ oxygen needs in Hamburg and Lϋnen. The new facility will be commissioned in 2011.
Guy Salzgeber, Air Liquide’s Vice President for North and Central Europe and Executive Committee member, stated, “With these investments, we are very happy to see the materialization of our development efforts in Germany. The new contract with Aurubis marks a further step in the development of the Group’s activities in Northern Germany. Those are positive signs of the recovery of the investment cycle in Western Europe which is very good news for our activities in these countries.”

The new facility will join Air Liquide’s current project in Oberhausen to produce Germany’s largest Air Separation Unit (ASU); a centre which benefits from a production output of 2,400 tonnes per day of oxygen and will start up in 2011. Air Liquide expects to meet the oxygen needs of the iron, steel, chemical and petrochemical industries in the Rhine-Ruhr region.
