The multi-million-pound upgrade to Air Products’ major industrial gas plant in Carrington, UK, has been completed.
The £30m ($39m) upgrade seeks to improve environmental performance, generate increased production and improve sustainability levels, allowing the company to support its growing customer base across the country.
Air Products installed a new, super-efficient 55-metre high cold box at the site in Manchester to manufacture liquid oxygen (O2), nitrogen (N2) and argon (Ar).
The production facility remained operational throughout the 18-month modernisation, with Air Products stating that the new processes were installed without interruptions, on schedule and on budget.
Air Products’ UK and Ireland Vice-President Tim Hulbert said that the investment in the renovation “forms an important part of a wider programme of strategic investment across the country that will ensure we remain agile and ready to respond to our customers’ growing and changing needs.”
The Tier One player has been based at Carrington since the 1960s. In March 2016, it made the strategic decision to upgrade the plant’s technology to ensure the reliable and high-quality supply of air gases to manufacturing and engineering businesses across the North, the Midlands and Wales.
The company’s site in Carrington acts as a base for plant managers, logistics specialists, engineers and operations staff to support Air Products’ wider network that serves the UK and Ireland.
