Big changes are underway at Air Products, but that doesn’t mean they can’t look back at the past.
And quite a past it is. Begun in 1940, the company celebrates its 75th anniversary this year, and on Friday, Nov. 6, Chairman, President, and CEO Seifi Ghasemi and other representatives were on-hand at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell.
Ghasemi was joined on stage by company leadership and employees who won an essay contest on a moment or aspect of the company that made them proud to work at Air Products. 10 winners were selected worldwide.
Marking the occasion
Air Products (listed APD) said in a statement, ”When we celebrate our 75th anniversary, we’re celebrating the core values that have always been most meaningful to our people. Safety, integrity, innovation. Understanding the industries we serve, from the vast global marketplace to a small customer’s unique needs. In their constancy through the decades, those values have defined us.
”The passion and expertise of Air Products’ people have helped our customers succeed since our founder, Leonard Pool, came up with a creative idea that changed a long-established industry.”
Seifi Ghasemi echoed these sentiments: “Perhaps one of the most significant observations I have made…is about perseverance through change. Business processes and tools may change, structure may change, the marketplace itself may change. Air Products people hold close to their values and rise to the challenge, adapt and excel, every time.”
Air Products recently announced the spinning off of its Materials Technologies business as part of an ongoing company restructure. This summer the company also opened a first-of-its-kind helium plant in Doe Canyon, Colorado. More information is available here.
