Airgas, Inc. has announced that it has partnered with the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA) to support 80 associates in the completion of Qualified Safety Sales Professional (QSSP) certification.

QSSP is an industry-recognised training course that focuses on building technical and regulatory knowledge in areas of occupational health and safety.

Certified QSSPs are trained to bring knowledge, competence, and credibility to their customers and are adept at finding the right solutions to help keep their workplace safe.

The training is sponsored by ISEA, the leading association for personal protective equipment and technologies that enable people to work in hazardous environments.

Airgas safety specialists, along with associates from across the country, attended an intensive week-long training programme in Atlanta and Los Angeles in February – Airgas’ largest class of QSSP course graduates since joining the ISEA in 2015.

The course covers core elements of occupational health and safety, including specific aspects and fundamentals such as risk management, safety engineering, and health and safety regulations.

“Safety is a defining characteristic of Airgas’ company culture,” said Don Carlino, President – Airgas Safety. “These 80 QSSP certified associates will be valuable resources for our customers with their enhanced understanding of safety practices and solutions to keep their customers safe in the workplace.”

Participants also learned to calculate the cost of an injury in sales equivalent dollars, and gain understanding of how poor safety practices can affect profits, both for Airgas and their customers. The increased knowledge and competence that comes from a QSSP certification builds trust and credibility with customers, strengthening those relationships, Airgas explained.

Mark Dannemiller, Airgas Vice-President of Safety Sales, added, “QSSP builds confidence in our associates and credibility with our customers to ensure that we continue to provide safety products that support our customers’ written safety programs and safety protocols.”

“By increasing their technical and regulatory expertise, these associates gain important professional development skills, which they bring back to Airgas, and most importantly, to our customers.”
