Cryolor Asia Pacific reached a milestone earlier this week when its Chennai facility delivered the 50th tank. The achievement, marked with a ceremony, was all the more laudable given the way in which the project was undertaken – with a strong sense of corporate social responsibility.
The Chennai facility in India was opened in May 2011 and offers a manufacturing capacity of 300 cryogenic storage tanks per year, ranging from 6kl to 77kl. As an apt start to the 2012 calendar, plant efficiency was marked by the delivery of the 50th tank to launch customer, Air Liquide India.
Ravin Mirchandani, Managing Director of Cryolor Asia Pacific commented on the achievement, “Our objective was to manufacture cryogenic tanks in India that are indistinguishable from those manufactured by Cryolor in Europe. We have managed to maintain our quality levels as we progressively localise our raw materials. Our products are already deployed by customers in many countries in Asia and Middle East. The 50th tank is a major milestone for us and this cryogenic tank bears inside its outer shell the signatures of every CAP employee. We are proud to hand it over to Air Liquide India”.
A local focus with lateral thinking
In a press statement, Cryolor described how early in the Indian investment phase the firm determined to maintain a strong corporate social level of responsibility. Indeed, Cryolor’s workforce in India is a 20% qualified female team. At an early stage of the project the firm trained and employed local women with limited means of income – providing them with a future as certified welders, and the company with qualified professionals.

Indeed, Cryolor historically names milestone tanks after employees and in a fitting gesture, the French owned firm named the 50th tank after Cryolor’s first female operator / welder, Ms Manjula.
Our Group has a strong focus on diversity globally and we are happy to support Cryolor…
Astrid D’Coutho, Executive Team Member for Air Liquide India
At the ceremony the tank was received on behalf of the customer by Astrid D’Coutho, Member of the Executive team for Air Liquide India. D’Coutho commented, “We were the launch customer for Cryolor Asia Pacific. Since then Cryolor has delivered tanks to many companies and we are happy to be the customer for the 50th tank. Our Group has a strong focus on diversity globally and we are happy to support Cryolor who is actively working to achieve this.”
