The British Compressed Gases Association (BCGA) has strengthened its focus on alternative energy following the appointment of David Hurren, UK CEO at Air Liquide Biogas Solutions Europe, as its new President.

Taking over from Tim Hulbert, Managing Director of Busch, Hurren – the founding chair of the BCGA’s committee on Alternative Fuels - will serve a two-year term of office at the organisation.

The 24-year veteran of Air Liquide UK also launched and led the company’s UK biomethane activity, specialising in biomethane Gas to Grid projects.

Commenting on the new appointment, Ellen Daniels, Chief Executive, BCGA, said, “David’s knowledge and experience is invaluable to our organisation and we’re delighted to welcome him as BCGA’s new president.”

“We are indebted to Tim and would like to thank him for all of his work in the role in recent years.”

The move could be a positive one for the ongoing energy transition, an industry-wide move to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and adopt cleaner alternatives such as biogas and hydrogen.

Having worked within the hydrogen sector for 15 years, Hurren is also Vice-Chair of REA Green Gas Committee, Co-Chair of Gas Vehicle Network in UK, sits on the Advisory Board of ADBA, and is a Gasworld Editorial Advisory Board member.
