Tony Edwards, Managing Director of Nottingham-based Luxfer Gas Cylinders, has been selected as the British Compressed Gases Association’s (BGCA’s) new National President in order to support the trade body’s “continued growth.”
In his term of office, which will span two years, Edwards will work in close conjunction with BCGA Chief Executive Doug Thornton to raise awareness of the sector, enhance relationships with government officials and key representatives and support the association’s active role in safety issues.
Edwards signified the importance of his new role and stated, “My objectives are to deliver ‘more of the same,’ supporting the BCGA’s many strengths and the great work carried out in recent years.”
The sector needs a strong representative voice to get its issues and concerns heard in government circles and the BCGA does this well
“I am particularly keen to continue raising the profile of the sector through the ‘Invisible Industry’ initiative, ensuring there is greater awareness of the important contribution is makes to the British economy and also to the wellbeing of the companies and people who reside here.”
“The sector needs a strong representative voice to get its issues and concerns heard in government circles and the BCGA does this well. I look forward to supporting the team in this important area and helping to identify ways to enhance these relationships even further.”
On a personal level, Edwards divulged, “This is only my third year working in this industry and so I see it as an opportunity to broaden my understanding and the key issues and opportunities it faces.”
Edwards will take the reins from Richard Gearing, Head of Regional Operations at BOC UK & Ireland, who will finish his tenure after two years in the position at the organisation.
