A new campaign is being undertaken by the British Compressed Gases Association to highlight the vital roles compressed gases play in the UK economy.
The UK membership body for the industry has appointed a technical PR company to help raise awareness of how the ‘invisible industry’ underpins a safe, successful and healthy nation.
Doug Thornton, Chief Executive of BCGA, said, “As a membership organisation, we felt it was important to highlight the vital role compressed gases play in the UK.”
“The focus of the campaign will be to highlight how industrial, medical and food gases are essential to the existence and wellbeing of thousands of people every day.”
“Industrial gases perform a wide-ranging role, supporting the manufacture of information technology, as well as key UK industrial sectors including steelmaking, refining, welding, chemical processing and electronics and help keep homes warm.”
For those not involved in the industrial gases sector the knowledge of the public, of just what the gases are and how vital the industry as a whole is in the manufacture of everyday products, can be very little.
Thornton continued, “Furthermore, industrial gases are also leading the way in clean energy technologies, including Hydrogen Fuel Cell, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) driven vehicles, as well as the use of large scale gas liquefaction as a means to balancing grid electricity supply and demand balance.”
“Medical gases also play a critical role in applications including respiratory care, pain therapies and anaesthesia.”
Concluding, he said, “Finally, food gases keep food nutritious, appealing and affordable, with methods used including modified atmosphere packing (MAP), which extends shelf live, keeps food fresh and reduces waste.”
