Burckhardt sells another LNG Compressor in The Netherlands

0

TS LNG BV has chosen Burckhardt Compression to deliver an extra pipeline compressor for the high-pressure compression facility at gate terminal BV.
Burckhardt’s equipment appealed, thanks to the labyrinth sealing technology of the Laby®-GI Booster Compressor and its small footprint. The appliance will be used at the LNG Gate import terminal in Rotterdam-Maasvlakte, The Netherlands.
TS LNG BV is the responsible contractor for this order, which has been constituted by Techint, Italy and SENER, Spain. The compressor will feed natural gas into the pipeline with 83 bar.
The Laby®-GI device benefits from a labyrinth sealing system on piston and piston rod gland that allows oil-free and contact-free compression for minimal wear and tear. Furthermore, due to limited space, TS LNG BV was particularly impressed with the Laby®-GI’s compact vertical design. Both companies have agreed a delivery date during quarter two of 2011.
The compressor selection is perhaps no surprise, as TS LNG BV previously chose Burckhardt to deliver three Laby® Compressors back in 2008. These units were also deployed at the same LNG import terminal and shall be used to compress boil-off gas produced during unloading of LNG carriers and to maintain the LNG storage pressure. The extra compressor was bought to increase the terminal’s flexibility as well as to serve customer requirements during minimum send out of natural gas. The Gate terminal BV is scheduled for start-up in the second half of 2011. As it stands, the current capacity is 12bn cubic metres of natural gas, while permits have been granted for further expansion to 16bn cubic metres.
Laby®-GI Compressors are primarily used for liquid gas transport and storage. The units manage the compression of LNG boil-off gas at suction temperatures down to minus 170˚C (-250˚F).
