Industrial and medical gases company Carburos Metálicos, part of the Air Products group, has played its part in a test undertaken with the City Council of Zaragoza, in Spain, which studied the circulation and refuelling of a hydrogen-powered bus.
Carburos Metálicos successfully contributed to the test through the provision of a portable hydrogenator to the city’s Agreda Bus depot, in addition to a supply of hydrogen used to fuel the Agreda Bus-owned vehicle.
The renewably sourced hydrogen was produced at a plant that uses a Guarantees of Origin (GdO) programme to verify its renewable origins.
During the ten-day test, the bus transported 972 passengers a total of 1,601 km (995 miles) between the centre of Zaragoza to its airport terminal.
Stating that the test shows the maturation of renewable hydrogen technology, Miquel Lope, CEO, Carburos Metálicos, added, “We are going to continue to demonstrate some of our solutions that cover the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to supply to vehicles.”
These solutions include development of the company’s hydrogen route, which runs through several Spanish cities including Oviedo, Bilbao, Tarragona, Vallodolid and Zaragoza, and the supply of renewable hydrogen to a Madrid-based hydrogeneration plant.
