Carburos Metálicos, the Spanish subsidiary of Air Products, has renewed its agreement to supply integrated global energy company Repsol with hydrogen (H2) and steam for the next decade.
For the next 10 years, the company will deliver the gases to Repsol’s refinery in Tarragona. Financial details of the contract were not disclosed.
It is understood that the H2 and steam will be sourced from Carburos Metálicos’ gas and liquid H2 production plant, dubbed HYCO, which is situated in nearby La Pobla de Mafumet.
Covering an area of 10,000m2, the plant was inaugurated in May 2002 and represents an investment of €58m ($64m). The facility produces 144 tonnes per day (tpd) of H2 via its large capacity steam methane reformer (SMR) technology, which is the biggest in Spain.
Francesco Maoine, General Manager of the Spanish unit and General Manager of Southern Europe, Air Products, stated, “The company is really proud of this contract’s renewal and, once more, proves that cooperation, commitment and great service and the pillars, upon which we can establish lasting relationships with other companies.”
A subsidiary company of Air Products has become the first industrial gases company to implement an advanced control and management system for cylinders in Spain.
