Carburos Metálicos, a Spanish subsidiary of the multinational Air Products, has taken part in the first agri-food technology conference organised by the University of Valencia’s Higher Technical School of Agronomic Engineering and the Natural Environment.
Carburos Metálicos, along with 200 professionals from public administrations, associations and companies involved in the agri-food sector and related industries, attended the conference.
Carburos Metálicos addressed different issues that involve the entire agrifood chain, making special reference to trends and technological innovations in the sector.
Dr. Sonia Guri, head of Metal Carbides Agrifood and Water Treatment Group R&D department, took part in the round table ‘Sustainability in the production and distribution of food’. In her presentation, she informed the audience of how Carburos Metálicos’ innovative solutions can help assist with food waste. For example, she explained how Carburos Metálicos’ Freshline® Superfresh technology allows better management of stocks by using food gases to prevent the development of insects in stored food.
The table also addressed the sustainable development objectives (SDGs) introduced by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). Dr. Guri emphasised the importance of collaborative involvement of public administrations, research centres, companies and users to achieve sustainability objectives within the food production chain.
“Carburos Metálicos is constantly undertaking research and development to be able to offer innovative solutions that allow producers and distributors to better manage stocks, endow their products with a longer shelf life and preserve their properties optimally from processing to consumption. Forums like this allow us to make them known as well as to exchange points of view, meet new market needs and advance with proposals that solve the problems of the agri-food sector in an efficient and sustainable way,” Guri concluded.
