Leading industrial and medical gases company Carburos Metálicos (Carburos) – part of the Air Products Group – received a visit from the Secretary of Business and Competitiveness of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Albert Castellanos at the company’s El Morell plant in Tarragona.
As part of the programme of activities for the company’s 125th anniversary, the visit aimed to allow representatives of public administration an opportunity to learn first-hand how Carburos’ facilities operate.
Received at the plant by Miquel Lope, General Director of Carburos, Castellanos’ visit also revolve around the company’s efforts in sustainability including carbon dioxide (CO2) capture projects and hydrogen for mobility.
The company’s five production plants in the area are utilised to obtain medical oxygen and hydrogen for mobility, in addition to CO2 used in the food and beverage sectors.
Its recent ‘Movem Tarragona’ campaign aims to advance low-carbon industry by taking part in initiatives such as its construction of what will be the first public hydrogen plant in the province, set for completion at some point this year.
Commenting on the visit, Lope said, “We feel very honoured by his [Castellanos] visit at such a special moment for us as this year marks the 125th anniversary of Carburos Metálicos.”
“Tarragona is an emblematic territory for the company to which we have been linked for decades and we are convinced that it will play a key role in the energy transition and the environmental challenges we face, such as the decarbonisation of the economy.”
“With the ‘Movem Tarragona’ campaign we want to strengthen our commitment to this territory.”
The company’s ‘Hydrogen Route’ campaign saw it promote its hydrogen for mobility solutions throughout Spain.
The route’s most recent stop saw Carburos successfully complete a test of its first hydrogen powered bus in Galicia, Spain.
