The Compressed Gas Association’s (CGA) 2020 Annual Meeting has been the latest event to be cancelled amid the escalation of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The event was due to take place on 26th to 29th April at the Royal Sonesta in New Orleans, Louisiana, US.

The CGA made the decision to cancel the Annual Meeting, as well as all in-person CGA events through May 15, based on guidance issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

If possible, these events will be transitioned to web conferences to enable progress on critical industry initiatives.

“I believe that these steps are necessary to protect the wellbeing of our meeting participants and our members,” Rich Gottwald, CGA President and CEO, said.

“While we considered rescheduling the Annual Meeting to a later date, we decided against doing so to allow our members to allocate their time and resources to the unique business challenges presented by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic once it passes. CGA staff will be in touch in the coming days with information on Annual Meeting registration refunds, hotel cancellation instructions, web conference information for rescheduled meetings, and more. As the situation evolves, please do not hesitate to contact me if there are areas where CGA can get involved to support the industry’s ability to respond safely and effectively to the pandemic.”

US-based CGA’s mission is to promote ever-improving safe, secure, and environmentally responsible manufacture, transportation, storage, transfilling, and disposal of industrial, medical, and food gases and their containers. The CGA has 110 companies worldwide which are members.

The cancellation of the CGA event follows the cancellation of GAWDA’s Spring Management Conference, due to take place 5th-7th April in Austin, Texas, earlier this week.
