China orders 40 permeation systems from MOCON

The Minneapolis based company, MOCON, Inc. recently received an order from China’s State Food & Drug Administration (SFDA) to supply 20 provincial pharmaceutical testing centres with water vapour permeation units.
Each centre will include a MOCON OX-TRAN® 2/21 ML and a PERMATRAN-W® Model 3/33 MG Plus unit. The duo anticipates that 40 MOCON instruments will be in place by October.
President and CEO of MOCON, Robert L Demorest, stated, “MOCON has had a long-standing global reputation as the gold-standard manufacturer of permeation testing instrumentation. We are pleased with the confidence China’s SFDA has shown in our technology by placing a significant order to support its provincial testing centers.”
The centres will be situated in western and central parts of China. Both OX-TRAN® and PERMATRAN-W® lines are designed to test permeation of either flat materials or finished packages, for example, vials, pouches, blister cavities and syringes.
The OX-TRAN® 2/21 facility utilises a patented coulometric sensor (COULOX®) to detect oxygen transmission. The device offers parts-per-billion sensitivity despite water vapour. Meanwhile, the PERMATRAN-W® Model MG 3/33 Plus, a water vapour transmission rate unit, features automatic relative humidity (RH) capability using a new software interface. This allows the instrument to generate accurate relative humidity conditions.
The announcement furthers MOCON’s 2007 investment in an office, laboratory and service centre in Shangai. The company’s agent for the region is the Danbell Company in Beijing. Danbell Company is responsible for procuring the instrumentation deal between MOCON and China’s SFDA.
