Trade statistics indicate a decline in rare gas imports, caused by production adjustment in the semiconductor sector following the financial crisis.

The overall amount of rare gas imported in 2009 was down by 29.4%, decreasing to 57,975 kg in volume and ¥1.24 bn financially. Regionally, most major countries reported a double figure decrease, while only the Ukraine plateaued, dropping 0.3% in volume.

Experts qualify this decline to a decrease in demand for xenon; an event which was catalysed by production adjustment in the semiconductor sector after the financial crisis.
