CO2 utilisation technology: Reimagining how we see emitted CO2

0

Carbon dioxide (CO2) utilisation is the process of using emitted CO2 as a feedstock for new products. The CO2 is fed back into the production process and is treated as a carbon resource, rather than a polluting emission. One company reimagining CO2 in the battle to help solve climate change is CarbonCure. The Canadian company is leading a global movement to transform CO2 into a valuable commodity – concrete.

Concrete is the most abundant man-made material in the world, but cement production, the critical ingredient that gives concrete its strength, creates around 5% of the world’s CO2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

The ability to reduce cement will prevent additional CO2 from being produced. As a result, CarbonCure’s CO2-utlisation technology is one of a select few commercially available solutions that are expected to reduce global emissions by more than 10% and create $1 trillion in new carbon-based products annually by 2030.
