Coltraco Ultrasonics, a safety and survey equipment manufacturer, has released a new leak detector to add value to its Portascanner® package.

The PortaleakTM is a portable, ultrasonic gas leak detector which has been designed for reliable, hands-free detection of nitrogen (N2), hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs).

Equipped with a highly sensitive horn, the unit is able to ‘listen’ for ultrasounds which occur naturally when pressurised gas passes through a confined space.

The frequencies are then registered and generated into visible and audible outputs, via an LED display panel or external headphones, allowing leaks and apertures to be detected and located quickly.

The Portaleak (left) has been designed for use in testing pressurised air lines, refrigeration systems and steam lines, as well as finding leaks in duct work and locating the ends of buried polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipes.

The instrument can operate in temperatures ranging from -10°C to 38°C and has a frequency response of 34 kilohertz (kHz) to 46 kHz.

This device is the latest addition to the Portascanner Watertight range, which tests watertight integrity on vessels and has recently been supplied to the Indian Coast Guard for their new fleet of 150 offshore patrol vessels being built by Goa Shipyard Limited.
