In a first for the country, Spain has been selected to host the latest convention of the World Hydrogen Energy Conference (WHEC) which will take place from 13th-16th June 2016, in Zaragoza.

The 21st symposium focuses on all things hydrogen (H2), including the latest technologies and fuel cell advances and the most recent breakthroughs in the H2 research and business sector. Over 2,000 professionals within the industry are expected to attend.

Javier Brey, President of the Spanish Hydrogen Association (AeH2), emphasised the significance of the European country being selected as the host nation, “It is very important for Spain that this congress will take place in Zaragoza, as not only will it give us the opportunity to see what is being done abroad, but we will also gain visibility for our companies and the work done here.”

“H2 technology is already amongst us and those companies that make the transition at an earlier stage will be able to take advantage of its development and the jobs and wealth creation associated to it.”

Cutting edge projects will be on display, as well as workshops and presentations from industry leaders such as Hydrogenics, ITM Power, NEL ASA, BMW Group and Toyota Motor Europe. Exhibitions will feature new H2 products and services in the automobile and refuelling infrastructure sectors, as well as and end user storage and Power-to-Gas technologies.

The 21st WHEC will be organised by the AeH2 in partnership with the Foundation for the Development of New Hydrogen Technologies in Aragon (FHa) and the Regional Government of Aragon under the sponsorship of the International Association for Hydrogen Energy (IAHE).

The EU has budgeted €1.3m ($15.m) towards the development of H2 as an alternative fuel throughout Europe under the Horizon 2020 scheme, with decarbonisation and energy storage solutions highlighted as priorities.
