Double environmental award for Praxair

Praxair received two awards from the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) for environmental performance in 2009.

The company received an Environmental Recognition Award for its ‘Go Green’ program. Praxair’s ‘Go Green Team’ promotes environmentally sound initiatives across the corporation. In particular, it tracks potential environmental and financial savings available through projects.
Several different ‘Go Green’ program supported plant projects have helped reduce 32,000,000 lbs. of direct carbon dioxide emissions and 6,417,000 lbs. of indirect carbon dioxide emissions per year. The initiatives have also offered other environmental benefits.

Praxair received one further award in the environmental leadership category for various successful measures implemented in support of Mexico’s Environmental Leadership Program. Within the program, key Mexican companies were encouraged to find ways to create greater competitive value and deliver improved environmental performance by using raw materials and energy more efficiently, and consequently limiting natural resource consumption.

Working in co-ordination with SEMARNAT, Mexico’s federal environmental regulatory agency, Praxair Mexico found ways to cut; 311,500 kilowatt hours of energy use, 6.56 m gallons of water consumption, 1,400 lbs. of paper, 700 lbs. of non-hazardous waste, 17,000 lbs. of hazardous waster and 66,000 lbs of carbon dioxide emissions.
