Portuguese gas supplier Dourogás GNV along with supply chain management company HAVI are set to contribute to the global energy transition by supplying its first refuelling of heavy vehicles with biomethane obtained from a fully renewable source.

A project to produce entirely renewable natural gas from the anaerobic digestion of organic waste saw the Dourogás’ filling station, based in Loures, begin to utilise the biomethane.

The company intends to potentially incorporate its biomethane into the NGV supply system, following a demonstration-of-concept project established with Águas do Tejo Atlântico, which showcased the production of biomethane from sludge produced in wastewater treatment plants.

The Dourogás group also intends to develop in other areas of renewable gas such as hydrogen.
