Recovering carbon dioxide (CO2) from various feedgas sources such as syngas, flue gas or a natural source are well-known technologies, introduced to the market more than 150 years ago.

In the early years the focus was on dry ice production. From the beginning of the 1970s the investment in CO2 technologies took place in the endeavour of developing and optimising own businesses, and concurrent with industrialisation developments in general.

CO2 was no longer just about dry ice – it became a necessary ingredient in soft drinks and beer, and also an important application in a variety of other businesses. CO2 proved over time not to be that dependent of the same market conjunctures as the technical gases were, and despite the relatively small portion that CO2 represents in the overall business of the gas companies, CO2 is considered the more stable business for many of these companies.
