The European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) has confirmed that its Winter Session and Symposium will be held at the Hotel Le Plaza Theatre in Brussels on 26th and 27th January 2011.

Over 200 delegates are expected to attend the symposium, which is titled ‘Process Safety in the Gas Industry – Safe Design and Operation of Production Plants’.

The organising committee of the 2011 symposium have recognised that process safety is of ever increasing importance for the industrial gases industry and further still, for its regulators and customers.

Open to non-members, the symposium will feature presentations from 20 global industry speakers and will include a review on process safety incidents in the industrial gases industry and their impact. The event will also focus on how these incidents can be avoided through proper application of design considerations, safe plant operations and effective management and management systems.

The symposium will feature keynote speakers from the US Chemical Safety Board, BP, and the UK Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). Full programme details can be found in the insertion in November's issue of gasworld magazine or on the EIGA website at

Delegates are welcome from industrial gas companies and other organisations, particularly delegates from European or National institutions and authorities, industrial and medical gas equipment suppliers, service providers, contractors and customers.

Suggested attendees are operations and plant managers, industry managers, process safety experts, regulatory and government officials, experts from authorities and equipment suppliers – and those new to the industry or those wanting to gain expertise in this key area.

To welcome delegates to the symposium, on the evening of Wednesday 26th January, there will be a reception which will take place at the Horizon Room on the top floor of the nearby Sheraton Hotel.

The reception will finish at 7:30pm allowing delegates to make their own arrangements for the evening.

EIGA assures gasworld that it is ‘confident that delegates will appreciate the importance of the subject matter’ of the EIGA Process Safety Symposium 2011 and furthermore, that ‘all delegates will enjoy the opportunities to listen to and enter into formal and informal discussions with industry experts’.

The Process Safety Symposium 2011 will be held on Wednesday 26 January from 10:30 to 17:30 and on Thursday 27th January from 09:00 to 16:15 in The Plaza Theatre at the Hotel Le Plaza in the centre of Brussels. Presentations will be in English with simultaneous translation in French and German provided.
