It was announced today that US-based liquefied natural gas (LNG) company, Excelerate Energy is to join forces with members of the US-Bangladesh Business Council (the Council) to help Bangladesh fight the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic by donating medical supplies.

Partnering with non-profit Project C.U.R.E, the world’s largest distributor of donated medical equipment and supplies to resource-limited communities across the globe, the Council, also comprising of Chevron, HSBC and MetLife, were able to deliver 60 oxygen concentrators and 20 ventilators, in addition to various other medical support.

“The Council is a key partner of ours and together we joined forces with Project C.U.R.E. to make a direct impact.”

“Through our donation, these medical supplies will provide much needed relief and support to severely affected people in Bangladesh.”

Following arrival of the shipment on July 26th at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Dhaka, a handover ceremony took place involving JoAnne Wagner, U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires and senior representatives of the Government of Bangladesh.

The donated equipment and supplies will be distributed to ten medical colleges across Bangladesh by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and Bangladesh’s Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Commenting on the partnership and its importance to countries like Bangladesh, Dr. Douglas Jackson, President and CEO, Project C.U.R.E., said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has produced unprecedented challenges for the global health community, from large urban hospitals to small rural clinics.”

Habib Bhuiyan, Country Manager, Excelerate Bangladesh, said that it is important for the company to address the urgent healthcare needs across communities and that these supplies and equipment will help the medical colleges better respond to a surge in Covid-19 cases.
