Fluid Components International (FCI), a flow and measurement application specialist, has designed a new flow switch monitor for flow detection and alarming in air, gases and liquids.

The FS10i Flow Switch/Monitor detects whether flow rates are too high or too low, and has been devised for repeatable and responsive flow trip point or alarm warning within seconds.

Its 10-character LED array indicates actual flow range and when the trip point is reached, the LED will begin to flash to provide an immediate visual indication.

Featuring a wide variety of elements, the instrument comes as standard with both a 1A relay output for alarm and trip point setting, and a 4-20 mA analogue output for trending and monitoring.

The new device features air and gas sensitivity of up to 122 meters per second (MPS) and functions in fluid temperatures ranging from -40°C to 121°C at pressures of up to 138 bar.

It has also been developed with FCI’s advanced stationary parts thermal dispersion sensing technology, meaning it is temperature compensated for dynamic plant and process operating conditions.

The FS10i Flow Switch/Monitor electronics are enclosed in stainless steel and, according to a press release, “It is the only product in its class to carry a safety integrity level (SIL) 2 compliance rating and has a superior 90% safe failure fraction (SFF).”

It is designed for use in industrial processes, manufacturing operations, pumps, compressed air, gas compressors and HVAC systems, with applications including cooling water and fluids, leak detection, ventilation verification, nitrogen (N2) purge verifications and compressor leak detection.
