Celebrating a century of industrial gases, Part 1 . Setting the scene (1766-1900)

This October (2023) gasworld celebrates its 20^th anniversary, charting key moments, events and industry stakeholders over our last two decades.

For the global industrial gas and equipment business, however, there’s over 120 years of innovation, scientific breakthrough and key actors to be celebrated – from the first liquefaction of air in 1895 to the birth of the modern helium business with arrival of the Helium Act of 1925 and the BLM Helium Reserve, through to the developments in life sciences in the 2020s that gave us the roll-out of the Covid vaccines.

Here in this celebratory feature, we’re marking our own anniversary by reflecting on a century of the industrial gases business.
