In February the long-running arguments about the US tax credits that attach to carbon dioxide when it is sequestered versus when it is used reached US Congress, but now with a new administration in place.
A bill to amend the 45Q tax credit to establish equal incentives for CO2 that’s captured or utilized was reintroduced in both the House and Senate. The bill proposes setting the credit at $85 per metric ton for both scenarios, where now the credit for utilization is $60 a metric ton.
The Enhancing Energy Recovery Act is led in the Senate by US Senator John Barrasso and co-sponsored by many others.
