Gas compression is critical to the industrial gas sector, from facilitating efficient storage and safe transportation in cylinders or tube trailers to providing pure gas at specific pressures for various food, satellite, medical, and other applications. For the hydrogen energy market, compression allows low density hydrogen gas to be utilised at a higher pressure and therefore the energy density is comparable to liquid fossil fuels.
Diaphragm compressors, the core technology of US-based PDC Machines, are one of the most energy efficient means of reliably compressing gas, and of attaining high pressures with no leakage to the atmosphere. This is especially critical for packaging high value rare gases.
The company, which today manufactures out of a new 160,000 sq ft facility in Pennsylvania, maintains a strong focus on both industrial applications, which it has served for over 45 years, and the evolving hydrogen and mobility industry, for which it supports projects around the world. The business is roughly split 50:50 between the traditional industrial gas markets and hydrogen activity.
