Nearly half of the industrial gas distributors who responded to the Baird/gasworld Industrial Second Quarter (Q2) 2019 Welding and Industrial Gas Survey supply CO2 for legalized cannabis/CBD oil production.
The legalized cannabis/CBD segment is explored elsewhere in depth in this issue (pages 36-43), and an overwhelming 90% of those surveyed believed it was an interesting development for their business. Respondents were split – 48% each – when asked if they supplied CO2 for legalized cannabis or CBD oil production, with 5% saying it is not something that is likely to happen in the future.
Staying with CO2, there is confidence in a robust microbrewery industry with 45% expecting the supply of CO2 for microbreweries to increase and the remainder believing it will sustain. No one thought it would fall off. But one area that is proving difficult for some is argon – 40% are seeing a tightening supply – along with the ongoing helium shortage.
