The current vogue of ensuring that we all do ‘our little bit’ in order to ensure a prosperous and green future for our planet Earth, is being grasped by a number of countries and worldwide organisations, including the pressure vessel manufacturing fraternity too. A striking example of this has been in China, where its drive to fight ‘climate change’ has meant that many industrial organisations have been asked to relocate away from busy city centres, reducing local pollution.
But here the Chinese Government has also been extremely proactive, having planted many billions, yes billions, of trees over the past four decades; which equates to the country sowing seedlings over an area nearly the size of Ireland each year! Furthermore, the Chinese Government’s war on air pollution fits neatly with another one of its goals: contributing to the global electric-vehicle (EV) industry. Here, China has been the global leader in EV sales since 2015, and is aiming for annual sales of seven million vehicles by 2025.
One other notable mention has to be China’s solar panel production: two-thirds of world’s solar panels, which are made using specialty gases, are produced in China (Bloomberg, March 2018).
