Mexico covers more than three-quarters of a million square miles – the 13th largest in terms of land area – and has a population of more than 126 million. This makes it the tenth most populous country in the world, and it also has the most Spanish speakers.

Energy production in Mexico is notably managed by the state-owned companies Federal Commission of Electricity and Pemex. Pemex, one of the largest companies in the world by revenue, oversees the exploration, extraction, transportation, and marketing of crude oil and natural gas, as well as the refining and distribution of petroleum products and petrochemicals. It helps to support Mexico’s status as the sixth-largest oil producer in the world, with 3.7 million barrels per day being produced on average. 

Of course, industrial gases markets overlap only in places with oil and natural gas markets, but it is an important part of the context.
