Packaged gas technologies – A green perspective

Over my past few publications for gasworld I have skirted around the overall theme of the current article. That is because, in recent years, gas receptacles’ users have taken all the earlier concerns regarding the safety of the package for granted and have become much more focused on its ergonomic aspects.

The latter has a two-pronged benefit, in that while an efficient package benefits the user from ease of portability (in the case of cylinders less than say 15 litre water capacity) and overall transport costs for all cylinders, its lightness means that fewer raw materials are used for its construction…and the ‘green brigade’ has started its MARCH.

Though in the current context ‘green’ has been initially developed with respect to the technical efficiency of the cylinder package, in some quarters it could also be associated with respect to the cylinder’s contents. Our dependency on non-renewable fossil fuels is coming back to trouble us. This is why there has been a huge shift in focus to finding sustainable and efficient alternative energy sources. The latter aspect will also be covered in this article.
