There is always change and development in packaged gases, even if most of the familiar and enduring cylinders themselves are designed to be refilled hundreds of times over many decades.
To get a handle on the evolution of the space in the US, as well as North America more widely, gasworld has picked out eight trends and technologies that are in play today. For further insight into each area of focus we spoke to Vic Wilson of the Independent Welding Distributors Cooperative, to run the rule over the changes and opportunities that the IWDC and its distributor members are adopting or tracking.
Trend one: Lightweighting
To what extent does lightweighting of materials have a bearing on industrial gas cylinders and packaged gases, given that many of the cylinders have been successfully in circulation for decades, being periodically tested and even replated?
