LNG is a key fuel for the energy transition – and in 2024 the market continued to grow, following on from a steady prior year and, further away now in the rear-view mirror, the turmoil and upheaval of 2022, when Russia’s invasion of Ukraine changed the world order in energy. Christian Annesley shares the key recent developments and looks ahead

Liquefied natural gas is a crucial transitional fuel as the world targets Net Zero, being lower carbon than other fossil fuels. As such, it is a more-than-crucial part of the landscape for cleaner fuels in 2025. 

It has been a significant few years for LNG, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in early 2022, which upturned the global order in relation to supply, with Russia, through Gazprom, having previously been a leading supplier to Europe.
