Understanding employee ownership and the ESOP

In recent years, gasworld has explored the question of employee ownership in relation to industrial-gas distributors, and heard from a range of companies where the owners have taken the plunge and typically swapped exclusive or predominant family control of shares for some transfer of employee ownership – normally between 40% and 100%.

Today, while employee ownership is a well-trodden path, what’s also clear in exploring these stories is how every situation and company dynamic is different, with its own distinct set of questions to answer on the way to a partial – or sometimes total – transfer of ownership and decision-making to the wider workforce.
